Bearing in mind the increasing number of patients with oedema due to endo-tracheal intubation, the injuries of airways, and primary and secondary tumors of the trachea, the SBMU Tracheal Diseases Research Center (TDRC) was established at the Department of Thorax Surgery in SBMU National Research Institute for Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (NRITLD) Massih Daneshvari Educational, Research, and Treatment Hospital, which has been the referral center for patients with tracheal injuries. The main aim of establishing SBMU TDRC in 2007 was to promote fundamental and clinical research on patients with various tracheal diseases, and offering better methods for preventing them in society at large.
The SBMU TDRC Goals:

Managing and administering the clinical researches in trachea at hospital, inter-university, and national levels;

Managing and administering the basic researches and animal modeling in tracheal field;

Utilizing the efforts made at the Center for Clinical Skills in order to ease researches and promoting the expertise of assistants and researchers;

Utilizing lab animals in order to ease researches and promoting the expertise of assistants and researchers;

Holding conferences, seminars, journal clubs, and workshops and promoting collaboration with other national and international research centers in order to gain more experiences;

Elevating the awareness and attitudes of the patients about tracheal diseases through information technology and offering applied protocols in a research-based orientation;

Attempting to obtain the level of being “Research Pole” in tracheal diseases
